The Unyon ng mga Manggagawa sa Agrikultura (UMA) and its local affiliate in Tarlac, the Alyansa ng mga Manggagawang Bukid sa Asyenda Luisita (AMBALA) are in the forefront of the land and justice campaign in Hacienda Luisita. We are the main convenors of Luisita Watch, a network of human rights and agrarian reform advocates from the academe, church, artist community and other sectors.

This coming November 16 marks the tenth anniversary of the infamous Hacienda Luisita Massacre. On November 16, 2004, seven farmworkers were killed while hundreds of others were injured and unlawfully arrested when state forces opened fire on thousands of striking sugar workers near the gate of the Central Azucarera de Tarlac (CAT) mill in Hacienda Luisita.Until now, NOBODY has been held liable for the massacre. Today, despite a landmark Supreme Court ruling on land distribution, thousands of farmworkers still struggle with landlessness, poverty, hunger and impunity. Luisita Watch marks the tenth year of the Hacienda Luisita massacre (HLMX) by actively seeking justice for all the victims.

We would like to invite you and your organization to participate in Luisita Watch HLMX events, especially in the Solidarity March for Luisita Farmers in Manila on November 15, and the caravan to Hacienda Luisita thereafter. A solidarity activity will also be held in Hacienda Luisita on the eve of the anniversary. Various supporters from Central Luzon and Manila will converge in Hacienda Luisita on November 16 to hold an ecumenical service and tribute to all martyrs of the Hacienda Luisita sugar workers’ struggle.

We also encourage you to initiate or echo HLMX-related activities such as forums or alternative learning discussions, film screenings, photo exhibits. We will gladly provide materials or resource persons for this kind of activities in your community, school or church. We also welcome material or financial contributions to make the HLMX campaign as dynamic as possible.
