About Us
How it began…
We, a number of organisations and movements from different countries met informally in Kathmandu,Nepal on 28th September 2004 to discuss the struggles and issues of agricultural workers and peasants. From the discussions we noted that there were many common issues and that there was a need to strengthen alliance amongst groups to find ways to support each other's struggles.
When was CAWI formed…
We gathered again for a second meeting which was held in Penang, Malaysia from May 20 - 22, 2005. After a series of discussions, the groups agreed that the issues and struggles need to be globally highlighted and there must be a strong push for rights of agriculture workers. With this idea in mind, we decided to form CAWI.
What are we and what do we do…
CAWI is a Coalition of Agricultural Workers International, a unique coalition of Peoples Movements, Trade Unions, NGOs and other support networks representing agricultural workers, peasants, small farmers, dalits and fisherfolk.
